During the Raw Recap podcast, Big E shared his surprise at the match itself. He expected interference from The Judgment Day, potentially leading to a multi-man match. But the fact that Mysterio got a one-on-one opportunity with Cena was, in Big E's eyes, a huge win.
"I know it’s a losing effort, but I do love this for Dom," Big E stated. "I think being, this is the last two months, we have what, four more weeks of John Cena’s career, and Dominik Mysterio is not in a squash match with John Cena. He’s going toe to toe with John Cena. He’s getting mic time with John Cena. Look, I understand that he lost the title to Cena, but I think this was a big moment for Dom."
But here's where it gets controversial... Big E sees this as a sign that WWE is investing in Mysterio for the long haul, even suggesting that this match will be remembered as a key moment in Dom's journey to becoming a world champion. He was particularly impressed by Mysterio's confidence and lack of hesitation.
"I didn’t see one iota of trepidation on Dom’s face. I didn’t see a second of, is this moment too big? I saw a dude who thought, ‘not only do I deserve to be here, but I’m better than you,’ and I’m gonna prove that in all aspects."
And this is the part most people miss... While the Intercontinental Title is gone, Mysterio still holds the AAA Mega Championship. Rumors suggest a potential match with his father, Rey Mysterio, may be on the horizon.
