For those who take advantage of this extension and enroll by the deadline, coverage through Access Health CT—the official health insurance marketplace in Connecticut—will commence on February 1. Additionally, existing customers have the option to renew their current coverage during this period.

However, changes at both the state and federal levels have modified the types of support offered and the eligibility criteria. This extension gives Connecticut residents a bit more time to do just that. The organization has been collaborating with state officials to roll out a new state subsidy program aimed at lowering costs for eligible residents who purchase their health insurance via the exchange. This initiative may enable some individuals to access new state subsidies or alternative low- or no-cost coverage options, such as the Covered CT Program or HUSKY Health, which encompasses Connecticut’s Medicaid and Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP).
According to AHCT officials, the benefits of the state subsidies will include:
- Full funding of the expired enhanced premium tax credit amounts for consumers with incomes ranging from 100% to 200% of the federal poverty level who are not enrolled in the Covered CT program.
- Replacement of 50% of the expired enhanced premium tax credit amounts for individuals whose incomes exceed 400% of the federal poverty level but are still within 500% of that threshold.
