Get ready for a splash of family legacy in the pool! Caroline Wanezek is set to become the third Wanezek sister to join the University of Wisconsin’s swim team, continuing a tradition that’s as much about family as it is about fierce competition. But here’s where it gets even more intriguing: could the Wanezek dynasty be the next big name in collegiate swimming? Let’s dive in.
Fitter and Faster Swim Camps (https://fitterandfaster.com/), the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel, celebrates the dedication and dreams of swimmers like Caroline. For many, swimming in college isn’t just a sport—it’s a lifelong pursuit fueled by passion and hard work. Fitter and Faster is honored to spotlight these athletes and the support systems that propel them forward.
Caroline Wanezek, hailing from Brookfield, Wisconsin, has officially committed to the University of Wisconsin, starting in fall 2026. She follows in the footsteps of her sisters, Abby and Maggie, who are currently making waves as a senior and sophomore, respectively, for the Badgers. Their father, Tom Wanezek, also has a swimming legacy, having competed at Indiana. Talk about a family affair!
In her own words, Caroline shared her excitement: ‘I’m so thrilled to announce my verbal commitment to pursue my academic and athletic career at the University of Wisconsin! I’m incredibly grateful for my family, friends, coaches, and everyone who’s supported me along the way. I can’t wait to be a Badger!’
Caroline trains with the Elmbrook Swim Club and recently showcased her talent at the WEST Mid Season Showdown. She clocked personal bests in the 50 free (23.55) and 100 back (57.65), and came close to her lifetime best in the 100 free with a 50.55. Just a week prior, she represented Brookfield East High School at the Wisconsin Girls High School Division I State Championships, where she dominated the 100 fly with a lifetime best of 54.77. She also secured third place in the 200 IM (2:01.99) and led off her team’s 400 free relay with a 50.40 in the 100 free—another lifetime best.
Caroline’s top short-course yard times include:
- 100 free: 50.40
- 200 IM: 2:01.99
- 200 fly: 2:01.55
- 100 fly: 54.77
The Wisconsin Badgers women’s team finished a strong 4th out of 14 teams at the 2025 Big Ten Championships, led by Phoebe Bacon, who has since graduated. The team is now under the guidance of head coach Dr. Jack Brown, and Caroline’s sister Maggie has already thrived under his leadership. But here’s the controversial part: with Maggie’s success, will Caroline feel the pressure to perform, or will she carve her own path? Let us know your thoughts in the comments!
Caroline’s times are already competitive at the Big Ten level. To score at the 2025 Championships, swimmers needed a 49.60 in the 100 free, 1:59.51 in the 200 fly, and 1:59.66 in the 200 IM. Interestingly, the 200 IM was Wisconsin’s highest-scoring event last season, bringing in 75.5 points. Could this be Caroline’s event to watch?
Joining the class of 2030 alongside Caroline are Lindsey Schlegel, Taryn Weatherhead, Ainsley Stephan, Lilla Wilbur, Ellie Kayser, Annika Curran, and Vivian Moulson. Speaking of Curran, she edged out Caroline in the 200 IM at States last month with a time of 2:01.78. Friendly rivalry, anyone?
