A devastating tragedy has struck, and the K-pop world is stepping up! Following the horrific apartment fire in Hong Kong, several major K-pop agencies and artists are extending a helping hand, demonstrating the power of compassion and global unity. This is a story of how the entertainment industry is using its influence for good.
HYBE, the powerhouse behind global sensations like BTS, is leading the charge. Through its HYBE Music Group APAC, encompassing labels like BigHit Music, Belift Lab, and Source Music, they've generously contributed 500 million won (approximately $341,390) to the Hope Bridge Korea Disaster Relief Association. These funds will be channeled through a Hong Kong-based non-profit to support the families affected by the fire. Isn't that amazing?
In a statement, HYBE's CEO, Yu Dong-ju, expressed heartfelt condolences, hoping the donation would bring comfort and aid in the recovery efforts.
But the generosity doesn't stop there! Girl group (G)I-DLE, including Chinese member Yuqi, donated 1 million yuan (around $141,235) through China's Fosun Foundation. Yuqi also shared a message on social media, wishing for everyone's safety.
YG Entertainment also joined the effort, donating 1 million Hong Kong dollars (about $128,483) via its official Weibo account. GOT7 member Jackson Wang, a Hong Kong native, also contributed 1 million Hong Kong dollars through his clothing label, Team Wang, to the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals Foundation. Wang even shared information on local shelters, urging his followers to ensure everyone, including animals, received the necessary assistance. This is a great example of artists using their platform to raise awareness and encourage action.
Earlier, SM Entertainment also contributed, donating 1 million Hong Kong dollars to the Hong Kong Red Cross. Additionally, their groups aespa and Riize donated 500,000 and 250,000 Hong Kong dollars, respectively.
It's truly inspiring to see these K-pop agencies and artists coming together to support those in need. This act of kindness highlights the global impact of K-pop and its ability to mobilize aid during times of crisis.
