Maersk Unveils State-of-the-Art Logistics Hub in Shanghai Lin-gang
Shanghai, China - A.P. Moller - Maersk (Maersk) is proud to announce the grand opening of its flagship logistics centre in Shanghai's Lin-gang area, a significant milestone in the company's global logistics strategy. This cutting-edge facility, built with an investment of over USD 140 million, spans an impressive 113,000 square meters and offers a vast 147,000 square meters of storage space.
The Lin-gang Flagship Logistics Centre is a comprehensive hub designed to serve customers across China, the Asia-Pacific region, and beyond. As part of Maersk's integrated logistics network, it aims to empower businesses with enhanced efficiency, flexibility, and resilience in their trade operations.
"Our new logistics centre in Lin-gang is a testament to our commitment to evolving logistics solutions in the Chinese market," said Zhao Yihuai, Vice Chairman of Lin-gang Special Area Administration. "China's role as a global exporter and consumer market is pivotal, and this facility strengthens our omnichannel fulfilment capabilities, connecting China with international markets."
The centre's strategic location, approximately 40km from the Shanghai Yangshan Port, a key Maersk global shipping node, positions it to serve both domestic and international customers effectively. It seamlessly integrates with Maersk's ocean, air, and land services, creating a powerful network that delivers efficient and cost-effective solutions.
The logistics centre offers a range of core services, including export and import distribution, regional/global hub operations, and cross-border e-commerce. It also provides value-added services such as temperature-controlled storage and customized solutions to meet diverse customer needs.
Maersk's in-house customs expertise and certifications, such as Authorised Economic Operator (AEO), ensure fast and cost-efficient customs clearance for international shipments. The facility's flexibility allows it to handle both bonded and non-bonded goods under one roof, streamlining storage and conversion processes.
China's international trade is evolving, moving from an export-driven model to a diversified approach encompassing export, import, and transshipment. Maersk's new warehouse enables brands to achieve unified inventory management, efficiently meeting B2B and B2C requirements.
The facility is future-ready, featuring four high-standard ramp warehouses and one fully automated intelligent warehouse. It is equipped with advanced systems, including automated storage and retrieval systems (ASRS), stacker cranes, rail-guided vehicles, and autonomous mobile robots. These innovations enhance operational efficiency, reduce costs, and improve accuracy.
Sustainability is a key focus, with the centre incorporating solar panels to supply over 70% of its electricity and fully electric equipment. Rainwater harvesting and resource recycling further contribute to its eco-friendly design. The facility has applied for LEED Gold certification, a globally recognized standard for energy efficiency and sustainable design.
